Summer is here! Fun things to do from the Poconos to Philadelphia.

We’ve all heard about the joys of the shore, but did you know that there is a world of adventure waiting just beyond the city? If you’ve not yet made it up to the Pocono Mountains, this is your summer to explore the wild and wonderful scenic area in lower northeastern Pennsylvania. But, of course, we can’t forget about our fair city! Here’s a few things to do in each spot!


Hickory Run State Park
Date: Every Day, Dawn to Dusk
Location: Carbon County, Pennsylvania

Hickory Run State Park, nestled in Carbon County's western foothills of the Pocono Mountains, is a fantastic destination for solo explorations, family outings, or adventures with friends. Spanning over 15,990 acres, this expansive park offers year-round access, from sunrise to sunset, with day use areas closing at dusk. With more than 40 miles of hiking trails, three state park natural areas, miles of trout streams, and the awe-inspiring Boulder Field, a designated National Natural Landmark, Hickory Run State Park provides a wealth of outdoor opportunities for visitors to enjoy.


Honey and Blueberry Festival
Date: July 22/23, July 29/30, 11am-5pm
Location: Equestrian House, 10 Equestrian Rd, Pleasant Mount, PA 18453

Immerse yourself in the delightful flavors of summer at the Honey & Blueberry Festival hosted at Equestrian House. This festival invites you to experience the peak of the blueberry harvest in July when the highbush wild blueberries are at their juiciest and most flavorful. Visitors can enjoy the opportunity to pick their own blueberries, learn about beehive farming, and more! For a special tour of the property, the price is $15 for adults, $10 for children aged 12 and under, and free for children under 3. Don't miss this opportunity to savor the delicious flavors of blueberries while learning about the fascinating world of bee farming.


Carbon County Fair
Date: August 7-12, 4-10pm each day
Location: Fairgrounds, 3285 Little Gap Road, Palmerton PA 18071

This exciting fair offers a perfect blend of agricultural displays, delicious food, exhilarating rides, and captivating musical entertainment. Enjoy daily ride specials that guarantee endless fun for everyone. The entry fee includes access to the fantastic musical performances throughout the fair. While there may be an additional charge for arena events such as the garden tractor pull and demolition derbies, parking is free for all attendees. Witness the exhilarating contests in baking and quilt blocking, marvel at the impressive livestock show, and feel the adrenaline rush during the demolition derby. To top it all off, don't miss the breathtaking fireworks display that illuminates the night sky each year. The Carbon County Fair promises a memorable experience for all ages.



Now that we’ve covered the Poconos, let’s take a trip down I-476 to Philadelphia!

The Oval
Date: July 7 – August 20, 2023 (Fridays through Sundays)
Location: Eakins Oval, Ben Franklin Parkway,Philadelphia

Experience The Oval, a pop-up urban oasis located near the iconic Rocky Steps and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This year, The Oval features a spacious 21,000-square-foot beer garden, lawn games, a large Ben Franklin-inspired ground mural by Mural Arts Philadelphia, and a rotating selection of local food trucks. Don't miss the free concert on July 7, featuring Philly brass band SNACKTIME, DJ Killsing, and songwriter Rachel Andie.

Parks on Tap
Date: Through Sunday, October 1, 2023 (select dates)
Location: Various locations including Manayunk, FDR Park, S. Broad Street,
Philadelphia

Quench your thirst and satisfy your taste buds at Parks on Tap, a traveling beer garden that visits different parks and green spaces throughout Philadelphia. Sponsored by Philadelphia Horticultural Society, these pop up gardens can be found throughout the city, and are pet- friendly and easily accessible on public transit. Enjoy draft beers from Mainstay Independent Brewing, refreshing cocktails, and delicious finger foods and sandwiches. The gardens are sprawling and filled with plant life, open air and great vibes. Philadelphia Union
Date: Various, through at least October 7th
Location: Subaru Park 2501 Seaport Drive, Chester, PA

Experience the thrill and excitement of attending a Philadelphia Union game at the stunning Subaru Park in Chester, PA, a short drive from downtown Philadelphia and easily accessible on public transit.
