Spring & Summer Events Around Philadelphia

Written by Copper Hill | Mon, May 15, '23

In the blink of an eye, we’ve gone from sweater weather to digging our AC units out of the basement. Now that the April showers are (mostly) over and done with, we’re ready for those May flowers. Seasons change quickly here in the city of Brotherly Love, and if you’re anything like us, you’re looking for any reason you can to get out of the house and spend some time out and about. We’ll save you the backbreaking work of perusing the internet for events. Check out some of the things we’re looking forward to doing as we round the corner from spring into summer.

1. Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest

Nestled along the banks of the Delaware River just off of Front and Chestnut, many Philadelphians think of ice skating and hot chocolate when someone mentions the rink at Penn’s Landing. The summer version is arguably even better, boasting carnival rides, boardwalk games, mini-golf, an arcade, and, of course, outdoor, ice-free skating. General admission is free, so if you’re just looking to catch a vibe, you’re in the right place. Open now through September 24th.

2. Philly Beer Week

What’s on tap for this one? The annual Philly Beer Week returns from June 2nd to 11th with ten days of events, tastings, happy hours, pub crawls, and a prolonged excuse to put away that spreadsheet and crack open a cold one. Held at various locations around the city (and not just in the aptly named Brewerytown), Philly Beer Week brings together breweries and craftworks from all around the region. Check out their official website for more info!

3. Devon Horse Show

If you’ve been around the Main Line or Philly exurbs for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard someone talk about the Devon Horse Show, and for good reason. Running from May 25th to June 4th, the event is the oldest of its kind in the entire country, operating continuously since 1896. The Devon Horse Show Grounds play host to the largest multi-breed horse show in America and the Devon Country Fair, raising money for Bryn Mawr Hospital and providing good old-fashioned family fun.

4. Lancaster Ave Jazz and Arts Fest

The Lancaster Avenue corridor, long a hotbed for culture and community in West Philadelphia, has been getting a lot of love lately. New buildings and projects inch forward every day, and the area is continuing to grow and thrive. Each summer, thousands flock to the block to see some of Philly's funkiest musicians do their thing. With food trucks and local art, this festival is a great way to spend one of your dog days of summer. The festival takes place on Saturday, July 15th from 12-7pm.
